The teams Leicester City will face in Europa League Group stage
On Friday around midday, Leicester City will discover their Europa League opponents for the Group stage. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are the other EPL clubs involved.
Thank God it’s Friday, eh? Back in Europe as the Europa League draw gets underway. Us Leicester City supporters are truly spoiled at the moment: top of the Premier League after winning all games; and the Foxes have signed some great, necessary players with another announced on this very same day, in Wesley Fofana.
The intent from the East Midlands side is evident from incomings, Cengiz Under and Castagne are highly-rated as is Fofana – who signed for five-years for approximately £30 million.
Castagne has already proven himself EPL ready, not to mention that the Belgian provides invaluable UEL experience. Under is a Turkey international and has also played in Europe, further boosting the ambitious Foxes.
The Europa League draw
As usual, UEFA drew out the draw for as much publicity and over the top pomp they could muster. So by 12:30pm we were all still awaiting the matchups.
Finally, at around 12:40pm the selections were completed. Leicester will face Sporting Clube de Braga – or S.C. Braga – AEK Athens F.C. and FC Zorya Luhansk in Group G.
Leicester City opponent watch
Here’s a quick lowdown on the King Power club’s opposition in the UEL.
Braga: Naturally they play in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and have won the second division and main cup multiple times.
AEK Athens F.C.: Kitrinomavri – aka Yellow-Blacks – were third in the Super League Greece in 2019/20.
FC Zorya Luhansk: A Ukrainian outfit known as Muzhyky – the Men – they lifted the former Soviet league and cup titles but have had little success in the contemporary era.
The transfer deadlines come very soon now, the first is at 11pm BST on Monday, October 5; the second expiration, which involves English top-flight clubs signing EFL players, will occur at 5pm BST on Friday, October 16.
