What an incredible and unfortunate fall from grace Leicester City winger Demarai Gray has suffered. Some would say it is of his own volition.

Demarai Gray‘s contract expires at the end of this season; there is no doubt he’ll be leaving then, unless a miraculous and stunningly unpredictable turn of events unfolds for Leicester City. Although, that has happened before.

Anyway, this theory of Gray’s time coming to an end has been, well, a saga. On Thursday morning, the Birmingham-born player‘s name was omitted from the Foxes’ Europa League squad. We know Gray is out-of-favour with boss Brendan Rodgers – this is the final nail in the coffin, so to speak.

Leicester City winger should seek Championship move to reignite career

If not being chosen in a 24-man roster wasn’t enough of a kick in the teeth for the wingman, here’s another one: with all due respect, Gray should drop down a division and return to the Championship – possibly with his hometown club, Birmingham City.

Absolutely no Premier League sides made a bid for Gray during the transfer window – there was not an offer in sight. And with opportunities for an EPL move over, it leaves few options for him. All the major European transfer windows are also shut. Whereas an EFL switch could occur until October 16.

Maybe the 24 year old’s plan will be the slightly unenviable and dodgy move that Mesut Ozil has opted for in his Arsenal demise: ‘you don’t want to play me – fine’, then they just sit back and earn the astronomical wages agreed upon until the lucrative contract expires.

Furthermore in relation to Gray’s decline

England’s senior football squad – where Gray was once selected before his drawn out decline – play Wales on Thursday evening. Leicester’s Harvey Barnes – who is somewhat of a successor to the former at King Power Stadium and in the Three Lions setup – is tipped for a start. Barnes is likely to play a significant part in the friendly meeting, either way.

Subsequently, Gareth Southgate’s side compete in further Nations League matches, with Belgium and Denmark providing a stern test for Barnes and his international team-mates.
