Current BBC Sport pundit and former Newcastle United and England legend Alan Shearer says Leicester City will not win the Premier League title.

Yes, the 2020/21 Premier League campaign is a crazily unusual one, with respect to years gone by. Of course there have been upsets and unpredicted 5000-1 winners before – mentioning no names, apart from the mighty Leicester City! Yet this coronavirus ravaged season remains the most peculiar on record.

At present, the Foxes sit atop the division. Aston Villa and Southampton are around the summit, too. Many watchers have suggested that a power shift is taking place. But while Villa have improved, as have Southampton, surely neither will mount serious challenges for the EPL trophy.

Meanwhile mainstream media outlets have started injecting Leicester into conversations about repeating their 2016 triumph. However, one high profile pundit, Alan Shearer formerly of Newcastle United, does not believe the east Midlands side have a chance this term.

After praising the work of Brendan Rodgers and the King Power team as a whole, Shearer made his prediction for the eventually victorious EPL outfit of 2020. Shearer tells BBC Sport that, ultimately, no club will be able to overcome Liverpool or Manchester City.

Ever the perfectionist, Rodgers was actually disappointed that his Leicester City side conceded a goal when beating Leeds United 4-1 at Elland Road. This goes to show that the boss certainly has the correct attitude required in order to become a winner.

We all know how successful he was in the Scottish Premier League with Celtic; and the EPL title he wanted at Liverpool still eludes him. It is unlikely that the Foxes will triumph in the top-flight again, but this season is as good as any for smaller clubs to do so.
