Since his arrival in the East Midlands back in the summer of 2019, Dennis Praet has proved an excellent addition to Leicester City’s squad. However, it’s recently come to light that the Belgian international snubbed AC Milan in favour of joining the Foxes.

Former Anderlecht man Dennis Praet revealed recently in an interview with VTM that he turned down joining Italian giants AC Milan in favour of a move to Leicester City. Praet completed the switch from Sampdoria back in August 2019 and has been well justified in doing so, making 34 appearances so far as he’s cemented himself as a key player in Brendan Rodgers‘ squad.

Last year, former Sampdoria coach Marco Giampaolo wished to bring the Belgian to Milan for his short stint as manager there, but the midfielder opted to join the Foxes instead. Speaking on the reason for his switch, according to Leicestershire Live he said:

"“I wanted to play in the Premier League one day and Leicester City was a very good choice.”"

What this means for Leicester City

This fact should do more than just stroke the ego of Foxes fans, but also prove something to them: Khun Top is building something. It’s hard to imagine writing this headline ten years ago when Milan were scooping up their 18th Scudetto while Leicester languished at tenth in the Championship- serving as testament to how far the Foxes have come under their Thai owners.

Most of us will remember Milan as European mainstays during our lifetime, so Praet turning down a starting role in Italy in favour of the Foxes is a good reminder of Leicester’s growing appeal. Like Leicester, Milan also sit atop their domestic league, so it’s not like the Italian club is the ‘fallen giant’ it was once seen as.

Almost nobody tipped Leicester to become champions back in 2015/16, and even less people predicted they’d kick on and achieve further domestic success. However, as many would agree the Foxes are probably a better side than they were four years ago, it seems that the King Power group have been planning this all along.
