Brendan Rodgers knows what must be corrected at Leicester
FoL believed that Liverpool were there for Leicester City’s taking on Sunday evening. That wasn’t the case, but the team didn’t execute Brendan Rodgers’ plan satisfactorily.
3-0 was not a flattering score for Liverpool in their recent clash with Leicester City. I know some disagree, but Kasper Schmeichel did keep more very good chances out. The most frustrating aspect of the meeting was that the Foxes did not give a true account or showing of themselves.
When Leicester are good, they are very good. When the team is insufficiently performing, they are lacklustre and generally incapable of invention. Manager Brendan Rodgers believes the narrative surrounding Liverpool being understrength or in trouble was unfounded when you look at the replacements. He states that in more detail here.
Occasionally a player like James Maddison, Youri Tielemans or Jamie Vardy will muster a moment of genius. However, in this instance, that type of triangle which linked three forward-thinking players was ineffective. That was partly due to Maddison seeming well off the pace or fatigued or something; whilst Tielemans had a pretty forgettable encounter on the evening.
Furthermore, Rodgers spoke of the necessity for aggression within his outfit; the Northern Irishman was unhappy with the first half passivity. Another problematic element is Schmeichel’s distribution, which if slightly adjusted, could be an asset as opposed to a hindrance.
The Foxes are in Portugal for their next game versus SC Braga in the Europa League. In spite of demolishing the Portuguese 4-0 a couple of weeks ago at King Power Stadium, this will obviously be a more stern test of Leicester’s European credentials. Following that, Rodgers‘ men must get their EPL ambition of fourth back on track. Sliding down the table at this early stage could still be detrimental for Champions League qualification; which top-flight clubs seem more competitive towards this campaign.
