Now that we are in a new year, Leicester City’s perpetual underachiever Demarai Gray is allowed to sign a pre-contract with another club.

Be honest – what would you do if you were in Demarai Gray’s position? Not a winger. The situation he’s in: Leicester City obviously value the player – he wouldn’t have been offered an extended deal otherwise.

If I were the wingman – be patient with me – I would line-up a move to a Premier League side. A lesser club may give him the most changes in the top-flight. Although, it would be difficult to turn down Tottenham Hotspur, after rumours of Jose Mourinho’s interest.

Naturally it is understandable that, under Brendan Rodgers at least, Gray is required to move if he wants regular football at any level. By any level, I mean he could potentially rejoin Birmingham City. Yet an EPL team around mid-table would suffice, in my opinion.

According to a roundup of national press, Gray is wanted by Italian outfit Roma, French sides Marseille and Monaco, as well as Benfica who are Portuguese, as I’m sure you already know.

Spurs and their boss Mourinho were credited with eyeing a move for the 24-year-old for a sustained period. Only a cash sum would prize Gray away in 2020/21; but he can leave for nothing at the end of the season.

Upcoming game for Leicester City

Newcastle United are up next at St James’ Park for the King Power club. Another successive draw would give Leicester a rather unwanted hat-trick after stalemates with Manchester United as well as Crystal Palace.

While it’s better than losing – especially against Newcastle and Palace – Brendan Rodgers will be looking to gain a win up north to solidify their impressive division progress. Reentry into the Champions League and a top-four finish are modern aims.
