According to reports swirling around in football media, Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic is the target of Scottish Premier League club Celtic.

Filip Benkovic has literally just arrived at Leicester City’s new training ground in Seagrave after being recalled by the Foxes, but now he’s probably going to leave for his former temporary club, Celtic. This time the Scottish Premier League side are hoping to sign the Croatian permanently.

Why hasn’t Benkovic had a proper chance at Leicester, you say? Basically, Brendan Rodgers does not consider the centre-back ready for English top-flight Premier League football. It’s that simple, and the boss said it directly himself. A quote which was described as brutal.

Although, I imagine footballers may in fact desire more honesty from their managers: at least then the player knows where he stands and can move on to gain more game-time. That is presumably what happened here.

The fact that the 23-year-old had a successful time at Celtic Park when he was loaned there previously – winning silverware under Rodgers – may be a deciding factor in Benkovic’s future. Leicester do not consider the latter a part of their “short-term” plans, according to Sky Sports.

Another noteworthy element in this story is that Benkovic is yet to make his full, competitive debut for the King Power team. He’s been with the east Midlands outfit for two-and-a-half years. However, now Leicester are said to be willing to hear offers for their centre-half.

Many members of the Blue Army will be disappointed or even sad to see Benkovic go without seeing him in action properly. For example, just look at the impact of Caglar Soyuncu – who was signed on the very same day in August 2018.
