Leicester make third transfer attempt for talented defender
According to a national media report which has been picked up elsewhere, Leicester City are trying to sign Burnley’s James Tarkowski. Foxes of Leicester will now explain why this signing is extremely unlikely during the January transfer window.
There is no denying that Tarkowski is an athlete of immense quality: as an elite centre-back, he reads the opponents desires well before they unleash an attack; while the Englishman is also one of the most tenacious and tough-tackling defenders in the Premier League.
Additionally, Tarkowski supplies a goal threat at corners and free-kicks – as all good players of his size should. At 6-foot-1-inches, Burnley’s powerhouse at the back isn’t the tallest – yet has a hunger for the ball which isn’t compromised by his uncompromising ways. After talking him up so much, I’ll now explain why Leicester don’t need Tarkowski.
Why Leicester City don’t need James Tarkowski
On Tuesday, Mirror suggested that the east Midlands side will make another push to sign the 28-year-old at the heart of this piece:
"Leicester are plotting to finally land James Tarkowski this summer. The Foxes have been on the trail of Burnley stopper Tarkowski the last two close seasons as the Clarets have fought to keep him.But Tarkowski ,28, will only have 12 months left on his contract at Turf Moor this summer after declining a new deal.– James Nursey"
Irrespective of the assertion of the outlet, it is unfeasible for Leicester to spend the £40 million – or slightly less – that the Clarets wanted. Especially with three world-class centre-halves in Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu already on Filbert Way.
In another Foxes update, the gaffer has complained about the misconception that Leicester cannot score or succeed without Jamie Vardy. This seems an odd notion from media and fans when the latest incredible run of form has coincided with a barren one for the striker.
However, the goalless No.9 still managed to create space for team-mates to exploit, while exhibiting his usual magnesium for defences. Referring to statistics, Rodgers said that it is “lazy” to make the accusation.
