In Foxes of Leicester’s view, the Premier League’s so-called ‘Big Six’ should be renamed the ‘Big Seven’. One statistic in particular highlights Leicester City’s evolution.

One reason Leicester haven’t been able to break down the barrier to the apparent ‘Big Six’, is due to a worldwide fan base which is dwarfed by that of Manchester United, Man City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea and, of course, Liverpool – whom the Foxes beat 3-0 on Saturday.

Why that matters: profit. It’s all about the money; that funding can buy a club better players, coaches and facilities, whilst simultaneously raising their profile.

You can probably see where I’m going here: the Foxes challenged the standing order of proceedings with their miraculously ingenuous title win in 2016. Following that supposedly freak occurrence, the east Midlands fell off in the league but ultimately made waves by progressing to the Champions League quarter-finals in 2016/17.

Now that the side is back in Europe in the Europa League, and with a a great chance of UCL qualification this season, it is fair to say that the former ‘Big Six’ dominance is coming to an end. Another, more accurate way to phrase it, is that the ‘Big Seven’ is the correct contemporary grouping to use. If the King Power club continue to evolve as quickly as they have, then revenue and global support will follow suit.

The statistical analysis you can see above from LCFC Live’s Jordan Blackwell shows how versus the aforementioned opponents, the Foxes are actually winning the mini-league this campaign. This is pretty much proof of a disruption and realignment of EPL prominence

Whether Leicester can maintain or improve on what they’ve achieved before remains to be seen. Don’t predict the EPL title win – but do expect UCL football and more people referring to a ‘Big Seven‘.
