What a disastrous night at King Power Stadium. It’s not losing which is so difficult to accept for Leicester City fans, but the uncommitted performance.

To leave a prestigious footballing tournament as the Europa League without so much of whimper should not be merely swept under the rug. That’s what some Foxes have to do with our feelings subsequent to that pathetic defeat.

Nor are we allowed to dwell on the fact that Brendan Rodgers made some questionable or downright unwise team selections – due to the fact that we are ‘lucky’ to have him. Yet we are fortunate that he is at the helm. And, in all fairness, the Northern Irishman was severely let down by the players he trusted. Why the manager couldn’t see the threat from Slavia Prague when the first drab leg finished 0-0 is a surprise, though.

At the final whistle, every legitimate Leicester fan was upset by the result, or outcome. Who wouldn’t be?! Some Blue Army members even vented a little frustration at the starting team choices by the gaffer; a few complained that certain players seemed not at their best. Not to mention the usual online trolls who call themselves supporters swearing at the club’s social media, or attacking players verbally and other sections of the faithful.

In fact, as a Leicester supporter and football writer, I just had to mute the words “Europa League”, “Tomas Soucek” and “Prague” on Twitter: the day after is too soon to have your timeline bombarded following such a dreadfully flat display.

Why Tomas Soucek was silenced on our news feed, was because during the Czech side’s raucous celebrations on the famous King Power Stadium pitch on Thursday, they actually video called their former player to join the celebrations. West Ham’s goalscoring midfielder was ubiquitous on every platform to commemorate his ex team’s victory. And it is hard to watch for the Leicester City faithful – even feeling like salt being rubbed into open sporting wounds. The Foxes will return stronger!
