Why Leicester City’s Premier League rivals Arsenal’s pursuit of a Foxes transfer target is bad news for the east Midland club.

Surely Leicester’s hierarchy such as Chairman, Director of Football and manager are now kicking themselves that significant investment was not made in the summer. Or, more crucially, this past January. It is now obviously that it was imperative for a quality attacking midfielder and qualified striker to be purchased. And this assessment is not hindsight – the theory has just been proven thanks to an unwanted injury catalogue.

Irrespective of the coronavirus crisis, football goes on. Major prize money and, more importantly, television rights are still available; especially in the English top-flight and European tournaments such as the Europa League and the Champions League. In fact, the latter could net a club £13 million just for entering the group stages, after the qualification rounds or bypassing straight to the first round proper.

Income that teams can be deprived of if they do not gain Euro football or failing to attain a decent EPL placing impacts finances no end. Therefore, this is why I ask the question if the Foxes should’ve made more investment with such amazing returns? My assertion is yes. Naturally The King Power International Group have lost almost all duty free vacation revenue, so an unwillingness not to fund deals is understandable. Yet it feels like an opportunity to raise the club’s profile and simultaneously secure excellent signings whilst rival sides suffer or backpedal.

Unfortunately for the east Midlanders, Arsenal have now apparently entered the race for Celtic goalscorer Odsonne Edouard. They join Aston Villa and Leicester, as per Four Four Two. This news could be detrimental for the Foxes’ pursuit, with the Gunners making waves in the transfer market that their top four rivals possibly could have themselves.

With the acquisition of Martin Ødegaard, Thomas Partey among others, Arsenal seem to mean business. Along with their supposedly amazing boss who will attract top athletes. If Leicester are serious about remaining in the big six, they must spend to accumulate to become established.
