Brighton v Leicester: Potterball v Brendanball on the South Coast
This is how to win!
Firstly, let us address injuries with two pieces of news. As reported by BBC Sport, there will be no further returning players for the Seagulls clash:
"“Rodgers says no players have returned from injury ahead of the game against Brighton, though Wesley Fofana, after playing for half an hour last night, is available.”"
Though at least Foxes supporters have some indication of when a couple of attack-minded players will make a return. As reported here by Alderman, Ayoze Perez and Maddison are both back in training, with the former due to return for the Sheffield United game. The latter is out due to a recurrence of his hip strain, so will return when he feels comfortable.
That being said, here is how Leicester might line-up: Kasper Schmeichel, Luke Thomas, Caglar Soyuncu, Wesley Fofana, Timothy Castagne, Wilfred Ndidi, Youri Tielemans, Sidnei Tavares, Marc Albrighton, Ricardo Pereira, and Jamie Vardy.
I would not say this is necessarily the best possible starting XI with what we have available against the Seagulls; however, I know that Brendan Rodgers does rate Castagne as a right-back more so than on the right, and Ricky P as a right-winger.
Preferably, I would like to see certain qualities from Brendanball. Possession must be retained as much as possible, and turnovers due to mistakes must be snuffed out very quickly by Fofana and Soyuncu, as well as Ndidi. Further, wing-based penetration with numerical overloads of players will be needed to breach a well-coached defensive line.
It will be hard to get through centrally, as Lewis Dunk and Ben White are very competent and a decent partnership. Ideally, I should like to see pacey inside forwards combined with energetic fullbacks. Inside forwards make penetrating runs between defending fullbacks and their centre-backs, where attacking fullbacks try to round their man. This would require different players to what can be expected. Ricky P and Under on the right, Castagne and Khanya Leshabela (the only suitable option) on the left.
Involvement is also critical. Every player needs to be constantly moving in, through, and around space and passing lanes, and must be getting themselves involved in play. This disorganises defences and provides more clinical opportunities. That being said, Kelechi Iheanacho is preferred to Jamie Vardy, as he has been very good at getting involved throughout a match.
The only other caveat is that set pieces or penalties may decide the game. Getting better at corners and indirect free kicks would be helpful, as well as not conceding any good set pieces to Brighton. Up the Foxes!
