3 disgraced Leicester City players break COVID-19 rules – what’s next?
Leicester City Football Club released a statement criticising three players for breaking COVID-19 rules. But what will happen next to the disgraced trio.
It appears as though star Foxes player James Maddison, fringe attacker Ayoze Perez, as well as back-up defensive-midfielder and academy graduate Hamza Choudhury ignored laws against congregating during a deadly global pandemic by supposedly attending a party of some sort. A disgrace, indeed.
What really upset the Blue Army is the timing, along with the lack of respect to what many people have sacrificed in the last ten years to get the amazing club to where it is.
Following the internal discovery of the discretion, the three were omitted from the matchday squad for the crucial match away at Champions League qualification rivals and Premier League opponents West Ham United. Leicester lost by one goal as the Hammers ran out 3-2 winners.
West Ham could have easily had a four-goal lead at one point, a Video Assistant Referee call avoided that scenario. A great fightback did not match the awful 50-60 minute Foxes display. Now it is easy for fans of the King Power team to point fingers at the selfish, missing trio.
Obviously Maddison and Perez could have started; it probably would’ve been the Englishman in the beginning line-up but both are important to the team, especially Madders. Choudhury would likely have taken a place on the substitute’s bench.
Maddison‘s absence in particular was very hard to take, as he is arguably the main attacking catalyst in the Foxes team. Thankfully Kelechi Iheanacho has shouldered that burden; adding to the fact that the Nigerian is supplying goals whilst Jamie Vardy appears to be slowing down.
Leicester City rule breakers
According to The Sun, Maddison, Perez and Choudhury broke the EPL’s squad bubble stipulation. They were “called in on Tuesday” to explain themselves: which probably means they attended a party or gathering from last weekend or up to Monday, I’m guessing.
Furthermore, LCFC have said the players will be dealt with internally; my understanding is no ban will be imposed by league or club. The publication also quotes manager Brendan Rodgers as saying this:
"“…they will join the group next week and be ready for next week’s semi-final.”– Brendan Rodgers"
