Leicester City fans were taken aback when yesterday’s team sheet was announced. Some significant names were left out from the selected squad.

Even manager Brendan Rodgers tactfully avoided answering the direct questions regarding the players’ omissions from the media. Some fans sure did catch that something was out of place. Before the match’s completion, #LCFC social media was buzzing with alleged reports which answered the mystery around the missing first-team players.

Leicester City’s official press release

The club would, uniquely, soon release an official press release during the clash in London, confirming suspicions. James Maddison, Ayoze Perez, Hamza Choudhury, Harvey Barnes, and even club captain Wes Morgan were all involved in breaching Covid protocols. The players are said to have attended a house party at Perez’s with 18 other people.

The incident took place on Sunday when LCFC lost to Manchester City. The defeat did not affect these players enough for them not to break every rule in the book only to enjoy the night. The gaffer found out about the players’ actions soon enough. He immediately took steps by telling them to stop whatever they were doing at once. The players chose to hide in the dark to avoid getting caught.

"“Everyone was having a good time then suddenly the players said to each other ‘Look at your phone’. They’d got a message from Brendan. He told them he knew what they were up to and to stop the party immediately. They told everyone to hide and switched off all the lights so it looked like no one was home. Most guests were young women. They were all drinking and having a laugh then carried on at Hamza’s [Choudhury’s]”.Unnamed source via The Sun"

Then the lot left Perez’s place and carried the party to Choudhury’s house which is 30 miles away. The guest left in taxis to reach there.

"“I could see coloured lights at Ayoze’s [Perez’s] house. He’d also closed his blinds. He doesn’t usually do that. We are City fans but this is just not acceptable. Why do they feel like they can do what they want just because they’re rich footballers?”questioned Ayoze’s neighbour."

Leicester City fans disgraced by their kin

The East Midland club lost the contest by 3-2 against David Moyes’ West Ham United. One of the most critical reasons for the Foxes’ underwhelming performance should be credited to the immaturity of the players who were involved in such a disgraceful incident. We don’t know if the players are to be punished in any way as we can’t deny their importance to the squad for the FA Cup semi-finals.

However, it puts a dent in the loyal faithful’s admiration and respect for this lot. I understand Barnes is injured and Morgan is a visage of the past so it does not matter much for both of them. But players like Hamza, who is pretty mediocre by the club’s standard, should have thought better.

Coming back to Ayoze and Maddison, let’s just say they have severely let the whole Blue Army down. I would never understand what made Maddison throw his reputation down the gutter like this.

It’s shameful to see the players disregard all the efforts and setbacks that the team went through to earn a UCL spot. With the final three games of the season against clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur, this causality has the potential to derail the King Power club’s expectations and cost Leicester to miss out on the Champions League again.
