Southampton v Leicester: Injury blow hugely significant for Foxes
Prior to their meeting at St Mary’s Stadium on Friday evening, unfortunate Southampton news is a significant boost to Leicester City.
Brendan Rodgers and his side are on a solid run at present: the Foxes actually defeated the Saints to progress to the FA Cup final, and have won two consecutive Premier League matches versus West Bromwich Albion and Crystal Palace respectively.
I can assure you that Foxes of Leicester never celebrates the injuries incurred by opposition teams. But I can also inform you that the news of Danny Ings’ unavailability for the upcoming clash between Southampton and Leicester is a relief for LCFC fans.
The deadly striker not featuring is interesting as Ings is an apparent summer transfer target for the east Midlands outfit. FoL would be delighted to see the former Liverpool man sign for Leicester.
Another Saint who’s been ruled out is Ryan Bertrand. Bertrand is another dangerous player, the sort of quick moving and thinking athlete who often causes Leicester issues. It’s true that the 31-year-old has never supplied goals and assists in the same amount as his younger, more contemporary counterparts. Yet he does contribute terrific counterattacks, key passes, as well as confident and swift ball carrying.
Ralph Hasenhuttl will also be without midfield pair Oriol Romeu, Will Smallbone for the clash against the King Power outfit.
Here is what HampshireLive said on the issue:
"And ahead of the fixture, Hasenhuttl has provided a full update of the pair, saying:“We have Ingsy, Bertrand, Romeu and Smallbone out, four players out at the moment.”– Ralph Hasenhuttl"
Caglar Soyuncu lauds his defensive partners at Leicester City
Soyuncu is a staple at the back for Leicester, along with Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana. Every member of the current three-man centre-back system is vital to the trio, as seen when Daniel Amartey has to cover.
And it appears that the Turkey international is very happy with the set-up because he praised and thanked his Foxes team-mates via lcfc.com recently. Furthermore, the defender said that if the players manage to stick to Brendan Rodgers‘ game plans, there is essentially no stopping them regardless of what the opposition does. High praise.
