Leicester City finds themselves in an all-familiar déjà vu scenario again this season. The scramble to secure a spot for next season’s UCL now looks stiff.

Perhaps to feel assured of an expected outcome is not a logical frame of thought when you are talking about your team’s chances in football. After yesterday’s disastrous evening, the Foxes would surely be experiencing the unwelcoming flashbacks to recount last season’s major slip.

Cursed night for Leicester City

We were aware of Jonny Evans‘ ongoing issue with his plantar fascia. Despite that, he carried on performing as the chief in City’s defence. But his resistance ran out its course, and just before the game, the issue intensified for the Northern Irishman. Such a last-minute crisis rattled the team’s mentality into approaching the game at hand.

Leicester City’s tactics were exposed, and Newcastle United capitalized on the occasion to win the contest by a margin of 4-2. The chinks in the Foxes’ armour were similar to the last season’s collapse when Rodgers’ men succumbed to Bournemouth in a resembling catastrophe. The pressure is now on the boss to eliminate any uncanny mentality from the defeated squad.

Learn from the mistakes to improve upon them

Yesterday’s performance wasn’t all gloomy. Dúbravka was having one of those nights where he was unbeatable for the most part. The main issue with Leicester is their squad depth. Look at any other successful team, they all have a stacked squad. Reinforcements win you over a crisis.

Yes, one can’t formulate one’s tactics in just 15 minutes before the game because plans are not made overnight. We understand the complex situation the team went through yesterday. The out-of-place formation further conveys that. Individual mistakes from players did not help either.

Rodgers didn’t have another in-form CB who could have switched in for Evans. These days, having a good squad of around 20 players is of prime importance. The Foxes were already treading on thin ice with frequent injuries this year.

There’s a lot to play for

The King Power club has a lot to play for this season which can shape almost everything for the next year. The Premier League has three fixtures left, securing at least a few points should be of paramount importance right now to secure a Champions League spot for next season. The other game is a FA Cup Final against Chelsea, which would surely make the team nervous as it’s the first final for all the involved players.

For the League games, the team must be confident that slip-ups don’t always happen. The three games that remain are vital. Their consequences should echo over the next season. But City has defeated each of these clubs this season, and there is no reason why they can’t expect lightning to strike twice!

It’s a big challenge for the manager to convince the boys after such a heavy defeat. But this is not the time to give up or usher in negativity. It is the time to fight, and we are sure Rodgers would install a strong mentality in the team’s psychological environment.

Yesterday even after getting thrashed, City refused to give up. They fought and scored two goals in quick succession. They need that resilience. They need to pick themselves up for a prestigious final at Wembley. There will be critiques now more than ever to invalidate what this team has achieved that far. All they remember is how you finish the season.
