British screenwriter Adrian Butchart has teamed up with Bedlam Productions to create a major motion picture on Leicester City’s living legend, Jamie Vardy.

The fresh news comes from the Mirror, as they claim that Adrian Butchart, who was an integral part in being one of the writers for the Goal movie franchise is at the helm. No better story of a real-life career can put the fictional Santiago Muñez behind in terms of fairytale storytelling than that of our Jamie Vardy‘s.

There have always been very few football-related movies for the mainstream media. Apart from Pelé: Birth of a Legend or the documentary on Ronaldo, this genre is mainly developed on fictional storylines like Green Street and Goal trilogies. Why does it always have to be a fictional take? Inspiring stories are not a rarity in this sport.

Why Jamie Richard Vardy?

Not everyone is talented like Messi and Maradona, most of us do not have the genetically gifted strides of Christiano Ronaldo. Some are mediocre, and it is okay to be mediocre. Such is the story of one Jamie Richard Vardy, who was born in Sheffield, England. Sheffield Wednesday did not see him as a promising lad, and he got released at the age of 16.

With his incredible rise from Non-League teams like Stocksbridge Park Steels, FC Halifax Town, and Fleetwood Town, the struggling factory worker blossomed into an eye-catching sparkle of a striker. The King Power club signed him in 2012, and nine years later, he is a Football League Championship, Premier League, and FA Cup champion.

Individually he has won the Premier League Player of the Season, FWA Footballer of the Year, Premier League Golden Boot, Premier League Player of the Month, Premier League Goal of the Month, BBC Goal of the Season, PFA Team of the Year, FIFA FIFPro World11 and 8th place in the Ballon d’Or.

Adrian Butchart has agreed to make the movie with the Oscar-winning producers of The King’s Speech, Gareth-Ellis Unwin and Simon Egan, and their company of Bedlam Productions. Oscar-nominated duo Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson will also be involved in scripting it.

The team has already held talks with Vardy about this project. Butchart has shortlisted actors like Zac Effron and Robert Pattinson are the primary choices for the lead role. One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson is also being considered as a third option to be the protagonist.

Not too long ago, manager Brendan Rodgers had expressed his desire for a film based on the Fox. He said, “His story is so unique. It is definitely a movie later in life isn’t it.” As Leicester City fans, we are immensely proud that Vardy is getting his fair bit of recognition after winning everything there is to win in the English top-flight. If anyone deserves his story to be told, it’s him.
