Leicester City are continuing to hunt for a long-term replacement to Jamie Vardy. Patson Daka is the latest addition to their transfer target list.

Just to calm some nerves, Jamie Vardy remains squarely the main man at Leicester City. Despite a rather uninspiring second half of the season, where his goal scoring confidence was shattered, the pacy forward remained a creative talisman.

However, he is 34 now, and Brendan Rodgers will need a long-term solution ready to go before Vardy is no longer able to play at this level of football consistently. Odsonne Edouard remains Rodgers’ favourite option, though Celtic are being a little stubborn with the fee.

Leicester City’s next rapid forward

As reported by several outlets, including the Mirror, the Foxes are rivalling potential interest from Liverpool and Chelsea to sign the extremely impressive forward – Patson Daka – from RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

According to Transfermarkt, the Zambian forward has featured 28 times across the season for Salzburg (including non-bundesliga fixtures), scoring 27 goals and accumulating seven assists.

That is 34 goal involvements. Where he plays, his team is very likely to win all three points from a match.

Also interesting is how the 22-year-old striker compares to Leicester’s other likely strikers next season. Ignoring any question about the legend Vardy, I have compared the Zambian with Edouard and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Daka is the most prolific of the three in question, scoring more with his right foot and his head than either Edouard or ‘Nacho. However, Iheanacho scores more than either of the others with his left foot.

In essence, the difference between them all is that Daka is quicker, more clinical, but more right footed, whereas Edouard is more all-round, and Iheanacho is left-footed but positionally astute.

The fee for Zambia international could be as little as £17m as RB Salzburg look to cash in while they can on their promising talent. While the King Power side have many targets all over the pitch, such value options could be the priority.
