Leicester City have been linked with the impressive Italian Domenico Berardi after his performances for Italy in Euro 2020. Here is what you need to know.

Italy have been one of the standout performers of Euro 2020, with their whole team helping them to continue their impressive run of not conceding and scoring across ten international matches.

It is hard to be a standout within an outstanding side, but Domenico Berardi has certainly caught the eye of the watching scouts. As reported by LeicestershireLive, Liverpool, Leicester City, and Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the experienced winger.

So, here is what you need to know about the Italian Berardi.

Leicester City after a winger

Domenico Berardi has played for the Serie A side Sassuolo Primavera for almost the entirety of his professional career, starting at the age of 16, he is now a 26-year-old with plenty of experience under his belt.

As a left-footed right-winger, Berardi is an inverted winger similar in style to Harvey Barnes. Pace, expression, self-belief, and strong. However, he performs a slightly different role for Sassuolo than Barnes does for Leicester City.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have only one right-winger at the time of writing – that is Marc Albrighton. With no depth for that role, other than perhaps the returning loanee Kamal Sowah, Leicester need a player of quality who suits Rodgers’ system.

By using SmarterScout, I can reliably inform fellow supporters that this man is no Cengiz Under, and certainly suits the King Power team. Berardi’s four greatest stylistic qualities are disruption, shooting, progressive passing, and ball recovery.

What this means for Leicester City is that this £43m signing would be the player who wants to shoot, that is prepared to track back to put in tackles, and is able to help get the ball forward with single passes.

This is what we do not have on the right-wing. Beyond this stylistic suiting, he is also prolific. Berardi has accumulated 17 goals and eight assists across 30 appearances, whereas Barnes got nine goals and four assists over 25 appearances.

So, what does Foxes of Leicester think about this link to Berardi? Well, if Leicester are prepared to pay the cash, they will have exactly what they need on the right wing, and would beat Tottenham or Liverpool to another brilliant player.

The status of the transfer rumour is that Leicester have enquired about the player, meaning they have asked for the price. There is genuine interest, though a bid has not been made.
