Leicester City transfer target Patson Daka has confirmed his move to the Foxes in an interview with Austrian football media.

Daka is one of the most promising and potentially exciting Leicester signings in recent memory. Youri Tielemans permanently joining a couple of years ago is akin to this feeling. And hopefully the similarities don’t end there, with the Foxes aiming to collect more silverware and continue disrupting the ‘natural’ order at the top of the Premier League.

Daka has been compared to his predecessor at RB Salzburg, Erling Braut Haaland, the Norwegian prodigy. His record screams successful goal-getter, but that doesn’t to his facilitating qualities justice.

In a rather unusual move for a footballer on the precipice of a hugely significant switch to the Premier League, Daka took the step of confirming himself as a Fox, as seen by Fabrizio Romano’s tweet. That was subsequent to humorously interacting with some of the Blue Army on Twitter.

Leicester City’s ‘keepers in rivalry

At the time of writing, Danny Ward and Kasper Schmeichel are going head-to-head for their respective countries, Wales and Denmark, at Euro2022 in the Last 16 of the tournament. A place in the quarter-finals is at stake for the triumphant nation; that round will get underway in July.

Schmeichel may be slightly concerned about his friend, colleague and ultimately rival for the No.1 shirt at Leicester because of some fine Ward performances for the Dragons. And the Dane would be right to be: the Welshman’s profile has also been raised so consequently the Foxes will perhaps have to fend off interest for their No.2 goalkeeper, which might see an increase playing time for Ward.

Yet Schmeichel is a club legend whose only fault is weak kicking; unfortunately for him, that skill is definitely a key aspect of elite modern football. That includes the system played by Brendan Rodgers, which is often flawed following poor foot distribution emanating from the stopper.
