Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel had to endure a laser pen being shone in his eyes whilst trying to save a Harry Kane penalty, following a brilliant performance from the Foxes No.1. Now England are in trouble for the incident presumably involving a fan of theirs.

How good was Schmeichel, eh? That was pretty much one of the best displays I have personally seen him produce between the sticks. In any shirt. Even his kicking was generally better, with 11 successful long balls going directly and neatly to Danish teammates.

Unfortunately for the Danes, England are, for once in recent history, a dominant outfit. And that fact is particularly heightened when Gareth Southgate’s side play at home, Wembley Stadium.

After making an impressive nine saves, including an immense one from a Harry Maguire header and a penalty stop, Denmark were eventually beaten 2-1. The Three Lions now face an emerging Italy in the European Championships Final, once again at the ‘home of football’.

A very controversial penalty involving Leicester City stopper

During the match Schmeichel was seen rallying and organising his troops, as usual; many observers, media outlets and pundits actually suggested the former Leeds United goalie receive the Man of the Match award despite being on the losing team.

The only error I accused the Fox of making was uncharacteristically pushing an equally strangely weak Kane spot kick back into an area which was easy for the Tottenham Hotspur man to connect with the rebound and effectively win the game.

Yet it appears as though even this incident was explainable, due to a laser pen being shone in Schmeichel’s face and eyes prior to the striker’s unsuccessful effort. Even if the device didn’t alter the ‘keeper’s vision, it surely affected his concentration. Gladly it seems like the culprit will be found, but not before putting his country in harms way.
