Leicester City’s most improved striker – Kelechi Iheanacho – has spoken about the atmosphere around the King Power club going into pre-season.

When Kelechi Iheanacho joined Leicester City, he probably expected to remain behind Foxes legend Jamie Vardy for some time. Last season however, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker was one of the best performers.

With four goals in the FA Cup, three in the Europa League, and 12 in the Premier League, making him the top goalscorer for the King Power side. So, here is what he had to say when asked about the club’s environment.

Kelechi Iheanacho on Leicester City’s family atmosphere

As per the LCFC site, Iheanacho spoke about three things.

Firstly, ‘Nacho’ noted the complete focus and concentration of the squad on winning more games, getting more points, scoring more goals, conceding less goals, and winning more trophies.

As we know, Leicester City conceded too many goals and scored too few in comparison with their top six competitors. This is ultimately what costed them the prize of Champions League qualification, no matter whether injuries affected that.

Iheanacho will hope Brendan Rodgers keeps the in-form striker in his plans with the arrival of RB Salzburg and Zambian forward Patson Daka. If he remains in the plans, he is targeting himself to score more goals and get more assists.

Next, he spoke about their relationship with one another. He said they were like family, all of them are friends with one another. One only has to watch Hamza Choudhury’s pranks with Wesley Fofana to see that is the case. The players are not just concentrating on improving their game to win matches, they are enjoying working together under Rodgers’ stewardship. With that comes great teamwork and support for one another.

Finally, he spoke of the need to concentrate on each game as they come. This is the winning-mentality which Brendan Rodgers seeks to instil into the Foxes side. By only focusing on the next match, forgetting the last match and starting afresh, the team can mentally reset faster and prepare better for the upcoming fixture. This is one of the reasons Leicester City have performed so well in the last two seasons.
