Leicester v Wycombe: A Foxes starting XI for each half
Leicester City travel to Adams Park to face off with Wycombe Wanderers in their second pre-season match. Here are the two teams we can expect to play.
Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City side fell to the fate of penalties against Burton Albion in their first outing, in which we saw some of the worst taken penalties of the season, and it has not even started.
In that match, we saw two teams fielded, one in each half. We should expect almost the same in the next match. Against Wycombe, there will be two teams which might look a little different.
The injury and holiday situation remains the same as reported in this article by the Leicester Mercury. That is, those who featured at the Euros remain on break, and Evans remains out for the count.
Read our preview of the fixture here, and let us know who you think should feature in which half.
Leicester City’s starting XIs
The Foxes will have to start the match with a slightly more progressive team than they started with in the previous match.
Expect to see Eldin Jakupovic in goal if a youngster is not available, with a backline of Luke Thomas, Filip Benkovic, Caglar Soyuncu, and Ricardo Pereira. This defensive line-up provides a balance of experience and youth, combined with progressive personalities – a missing feature of the Burton match.
In midfield the first team may feature Boubakary Soumare, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Thanawat Seunchitthawon. Once more, this provides an opportunity to a youngster while not unsettling the shape of midfield.
Upfront, three attackers should be preferred. Harvey Barnes could return for this fixture, or may return for the Villarreal match. Otherwise, Kamal Sowah and Rachid Ghezzal could be used as the wingers. Kelechi Iheanacho should start in this team.
The next half would see a change in formation to accommodate two strikers. Expect Daniel Iversen in goal, with a backline of Ryan Bertrand, Wesley Fofana, Daniel Amartey, and Vontae Daley-Campbell. Once more this has experience and strength in defence.
In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi, Tawanda Maswanhise, Hamza Choudhury, and James Maddison forms the possessive and progressive core of the team.
Upfront, the two explosive strikers of Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka would hang out wide looking for counter-attacking opportunities, while Maddison looks to arrive quickly into the box to support the strikers.
Leicester City could use these teams to keep progressive personalities sprinkled across the teams and maintain defensive solidity. This is the match to get our pre-season train on the tracks.
