Leicester City continues to grow as a focal point of the community. New plans to expand the stadium and site have been unveiled. Here are the details.

When Leicester was purchased by the Srivaddhanaprabha family, a breath of fresh air surrounded the club.

Since then, the King Power stadium was constructed, and the East Midlands side have gone from strength to strength on the pitch. As we all know, the only way is up.

A public consultation has been launched to engage and empower supporters, stakeholders, and businesses alike, as the Foxes establish themselves as the focal point of Leicester City sport and entertainment.

We shall go through the main points, as well as provide a little opinion piece on each.

Leicester City are becoming a top six side

On the pitch, Brendan Rodgers’ King Power outfit have gone from Europa League hopefuls to a bona fide top six side, showing all the playing credentials to match any top club outside of the big oil money clubs.

Off the pitch though, Leicester City have a pretty good stadium with 32,000 capacity, and a world class training centre. However, to truly establish themselves amongst the best, they will need a world class stadium and surrounding infrastructure.

The plans will see 8,000 new seats installed in the east stand, taking the capacity up to 40,000. It is hard to expand the stadium too much more, as the positioning is a little congested. Of course, we wish they could expand a bit more, but it is complicated.

Nevertheless, the plans will mean even more ticket holders can flock to King Power and support the team on home nights, increasing revenue and helping to build a better atmosphere on match day.

In a league-leading statement of intent, the Foxes will make the surrounding area a 365-day destination for shoppers, supporters, and the wider community.

A new 220-room hotel would be constructed nearby, providing accommodation for fans and rival fans, as well as players and staff members alike. This ambitious project is just another revenue stream with plenty of promise for growth.

The club will invest in a residential tower (providing housing for the local area as well as for new players) and a new commercial site. This would see the LCFC Fanstore move to the new site in a megastore for supporters.

A residential tower is another smart investment. Another revenue stream as well as allowing Leicester to follow the ‘Right to Dream’ model: new players should live near the stadium to help them transition and integrate.

There will also be a new multi-purpose entertainment and events area, presumably to allow a higher footfall of visitors, including those not so interested in football. This energises the local area as well as providing more revenue.

Finally, to accommodate the influx of visitors and residents, the Foxes will build a new multi-storey carpark. This is a necessity and will be highly appreciated by many.
