Leicester City: Fabrizio Romano gives Foxes transfer update
Leicester City are hunting for a new right-winger this window, and Fabrizio Romano has given the Foxes an important update on top-target Domenico Berardi.
Leicester City have made a few significant additions to the men’s squad this window, with Ryan Bertrand, Boubakary Soumare, and Patson Daka being signed up. However, they need a winger to complete their squad.
There have been several targets, with Noni Madueke, Amine Adli, Matheus Pereira, Daniel James, and more all touted as potential signings for the King Power side.
Brendan Rodgers’ top target is Domenico Berardi, the Italian Euros winner. Playing for Sassuolo, the right-winger has earned a reputation of being prolific and explosive: all the things the Foxes miss on the right.
Fabrizio Romano’s Leicester City update
Luckily for Leicester supporters, we do not need to do too much guessing with this transfer anymore. Romano has spoken to Sassuolo’s CEO, and reported on what was said.
"“We want to keep Berardi, he’s our top player. If we receive an important bid, we will discuss about it and take a decision together with the player. But we’re not selling our stars later in August”– Giovanni Carnevali, via Fabrizio Romano"
Sassuolo feel that losing both Manuel Locatelli and Berardi would be very harmful to their league chances. Both are star players in high demand, with Locatelli likely going to Juventus as things stand.
However, they will discuss ‘important bids’ implying a large upfront fee. Additionally, we now know that if Leicester would like to pounce on Berardi, they need to make a big bid soon. August eighth was earmarked for Locatelli, so we could presume a similar cut off point for a bid.
To me, Berardi is everything Leicester City are missing, but would be exceedingly expensive upfront. Would he be great value for that money is another question, and the answer to that is most certainly.
Foxes supporters may need to wait until any sales are made to know the upfront budget Rodgers will have at his disposal to get a new first team right-winger.
