Rodgers provides Leicester injury and transfer news ahead of 2021/22
Following the fairly thrilling 3-3 draw against Queens Park Rangers, Brendan Rodgers provided Leicester City injury and transfer news concerning Jonny Evans.
There is only one friendly remaining for the Foxes before the 2021/22 Premier League season starts. Villarreal will visit King Power Stadium for the final warmup match on Wednesday evening. That means a return to Leicestershire for former Leicester player, Vicente Iborra. Regardless of a brief spell on Filbert Way, Iborra seemed to be a bit of a favourite of the LCFC faithful.
Following the practice game stalemate against QPR, Brendan Rodgers, manager of the east Midlands team, gave an update on stalwart defensive leader Jonny Evans. Evans has been suffering with an injury which has improved, yet will apparently take more time to fully heal.
Worryingly for Leicester staff and supporters, Rodgers confirmed that his most experienced centre-half is a doubt to begin the new English top-flight campaign.
Furthermore, the Northern Irishman suggested that LCFC will perhaps opt for cover in the transfer market:
"“It’s ongoing. He’s [Jonny Evans] felt more comfort with it. But it’s one of those injuries that takes time. If we have to go in the market to get another centre-half, we’ll see where we’re at with it. That will be questionable (if he starts the season), he hasn’t trained with the squad yet.”– Brendan Rodgers, Leicester bossVia Leicestershire Live"
Leicester City build for the future
Meanwhile, the Foxes are being prudent ahead of, well, the next five-ten years! In addition to signing goalkeeper Brad Young from Hartlepool, the King Power side secured youthful midfielder Ben Grist from Grimsby Town.
Now Leicester have joined the quest to capture youngster Lewis Leigh from Preston North End. Leigh is a Championship starlet according to football.london, but Rodgers’ outfit will potentially do battle with Everton and Arsenal for the midfield man’s signature.
