Leicester City fans will be pleased to hear that manager Brendan Rodgers has provided some encouraging injury news on important defender Timothy Castagne.

Prior to his terrible clash of heads with a Russian opponent whilst playing for Belgium in the initial game, Castagne was looking forward to a possibly triumphant Euro2020 tournament.

Sadly for the Red Devils of mainland Europe, their competition ended rather earlier than many observers expected. And, of course, the aforementioned Fox’s injury meant his summer international football ceased prematurely. Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet became the only Foxes involved for Roberto Martinez at that stage.

Unfortunately for Castagne, his problem – fractures around the eye socket – kept him from contact training during the current off-season. Thankfully he did avoid a career ending issue.

In a further boost to LCFC boss Rodgers before 2021/22, along with positive news on James Justin, Castagne should be in contention for the new term:

"“He’s [Castagne] getting on very well. His cardio and everything else is at a very high level, we’re just waiting on a mask [for face protection in training/games].”– Brendan RodgersVia LCFC Live"

Leicester City’s Charity Shield clash given more significance

Having already added an elusive FA Cup trophy to the LCFC cabinet, the Northern Irishman at the helm will have his eyes on another; regardless of the contest not being particularly coveted. Yet Jack Grealish’s imminent transfer to Pep Guardiola’s Man City adds an extra spice to proceedings. Will the soon-to-be former Aston Villa man – Midlands rivals of Leicester – be able to start with a win?
