The Leicester players Jonny Evans beat to become vice-captain
Brendan Rodgers has named Jonny Evans as Leicester City vice-captain – but who were the candidates the Northern Irishman beat to become VC?
To be honest, Evans is a realistic captain of the Foxes. Although, having a decent underboss, right-hand man or second in command is essential – and not a simple appointment to make for any company, establishment or collective.
Obviously the person chosen for the role must be deferential, and the Northern Ireland international is just that guy: someone who shuns the limelight and puts club/teammates above all. Thus Evans is now LCFC vice-captain.
How Brendan Rodgers arrived at that choice is now revealed: Evans’ ‘winning mentality instilled by Manchester United’ was cited, along with his good impression for youngsters. In addition, it is said the centre-back is still “hungry” for success, regardless of a glittering career. Jamie Vardy and Youri Tielemans are supposedly the two other candidates beaten for the position, as per Leicestershire Live.
Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumare to be developed
Just as many Leicester fans have also noticed and noted that new signing Boubakary Soumare is a real talent, so has Foxes boss Rodgers. The Frenchman is particularly strong, unaffected by the prestige of the Premier League – some players can be overwhelmed by occasion or status – and has the natural ability and technique to become an English top-flight star.
Rodgers plans to turn the former Lille man into a midfield goalscorer despite Soumare only managing one finish in 112 appearances whilst playing for the French side. Let’s hope the 22-year-old can get on the scoresheet for the King Power outfit when he features. Though Rodgers previously said Patson Daka and Soumare will be used sparingly in their initial EPL campaigns.
Furthermore, the Northern Irishman explained why the former was signed; whenever Wilfred Ndidi is injured or unavailable, LCFC miss the height and physicality offered by the Nigerian, and Soumare can replicate. There is more from the Leicester gaffer here.
