Leicester attempting to sign Euro 2020 star in January
By Will Kennedy
Leicester City have made progress with the signing of Domenico Berardi. The Sassuolo and Italy winger has been linked with Leicester since Euro 2020.
The summer transfer window may have only just closed, but that doesn’t mean that speculation has died down. Clubs are now looking towards the January transfer window to strengthen their squads for the business-end of the season. And, according to Calciomercato in Italy, Leicester City are looking to do just that.
It is no secret that Leicester City have been looking to fill the void in their right-wingers. Marc Albrighton isn’t getting any younger, Ayoze Perez has been misfiring, and we are yet to see where or how Ademola Lookman plays. It is for this reason that Leicester is looking at bringing in Sassuolo and Italy’s exciting winger, Domenico Berardi. Links to the thrilling wingman have got the Daily Mail talking, as you can read by clicking our link.
What Domenico Berardi brings to Leicester City
Foxes fans will have seen Berardi in action for Italy in their victorious Euro 2020 campaign, in which he made 6 appearances. Since Euro 2020, frequent outlets have reported Leicester’s interest in the right winger, but no summer move came to fruition.
If Leicester City can now get the transfer completed in January, they will have an exceptionally good winger in Berardi, one who – to the delight of the Foxes faithful – has a keen eye for goal.
Last season Berardi scored 17 times in 30 appearances for Sassuolo in Serie A, along with providing 8 assists. For many of these games, Berardi was also the Sassuolo captain, meaning Leicester would be signing not only an exciting winger, but also a leader from the front. In total, Berardi has scored 86 goals and provided 56 assists in 238 games for Sassuolo.
Verdict
If reports are true, then Berardi’s time at Sassuolo seems to be coming to an end, but whether Leicester City will be his destination is up for debate.
Berardi’s performances of late have put him on the radar of several top teams, including AC Milan, and his signature for Leicester will surely depend of their progress in both Domestic and European competitions.
Berardi would be an excellent signing, and at 27, he is fast approaching his peak. The price would still be around the £40m quoted in the summer, though this may drop slightly if Sassuolo have agreed to sell him.
January is always a tough transfer window to negotiate in, with many clubs reluctant to sell mid-season. But if Leicester can seal Berardi’s signature, it would be one hell of a statement. (Words by Will Kennedy)
