Claudio Castagnoli, better known as Cesaro, takes pride in comparing his character to the Leicester City of WWE due to their ultimate underdog connections.

Ahead of WWE’s United Kingdom tour, WWE superstar Cesaro sat down to promote their upcoming event. Always considered as one of the best technicians in recent times, the Swiss Superman has always been portrayed to play out as an underdog in WWE’s hierarchy. The 40-year-old football fan inside the WWE superstar gave a splendid analogy upon chatting with Manchester City News.

He dived into explaining why he is the WWE’s Leicester City. In one of the biggest upsets of the century, Leicester City conquered the odds of 5000-1 to be crowned as the Premier League champions in the 2015-16 season.

"“Seeing Big E as champion makes me very happy. Seeing Xavier Woods as the King of the Ring is just awesome. For me, I never give up hope. I feel like if you’re a Cesaro fan, it’s kind of like being a Championship team fan, right? Like Leicester City or something before they won the Championship. Right? So you’re just hoping. I’m a Juventus fan. And I always say that I’m actually kind of happy that they didn’t win Serie A last year, because it became ‘okay, it’s the same thing’. And now it makes Serie A more interesting to watch. It’s the same with the Premier League, if Man City is not running away with it, you know, 10 points out of everyone’s reach, it makes it so much more interesting.”– Cesaro, via Wrestle Zone."

Cesaro has won the WWE United States Championship (x1), WWE Raw Tag Team Championship (x5), WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship (x2), 2014 André the Giant Memorial Trophy, Slammy Award for Best John Cena U.S. Open Challenge (2015), and WWE Year-End Award for Tag Team of the Year (2018).

"“So for us, I feel the more people you have in contention, the more interesting it is for the viewer. I never give up hope. I always work towards that one goal [the title]. And you know, because there is especially nowadays, there is somebody for everyone, I feel like the differences is what makes it so interesting. Not everybody is the loud mouth. Not everybody is, is the powerhouse that’s just surface-level big and strong. So we have a little bit something for everybody. And I hope I can make it back into contention to win the championship for everybody that’s believed in me for so long.”– Cesaro concludes."

However, despite all those glamorous accolades, he still hasn’t won a single world title in the company. The closest he came was to dethrone the Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania Backlash but fell short in doing so. It has been a constantly recurring theme occurring with Cesaro. We hope in the coming time, WWE sees his charisma and entrusts him with a world title run.
