Foxes of Leicester explain the rather ironic release clause apparently inserted into Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City contract.

Before you go ahead and preemptively or prematurely assume that this will be a rant piece – it will not. Nor shall I attempt to particularly criticise Foxes boss Rodgers; any man can attempt to better their status.

FoL merely wants to lay the ‘facts’ out for you to decide for yourselves what is likely to happen and whether or not loyalty is any part whatsoever of professional football. All done on the premise that three elements of media speculation are true.

Now that the preamble is out of the way, let’s get down to it. Basically Brendan Rodgers is being linked with the Manchester United managerial job at present, as he was linked to the previously vacant Newcastle United top position. Along with Manchester City, even; that is if Pep Guardiola departs.

Subsequently we were told by national press that the Northern Irishman would be interested in becoming Red Devils boss. OK. And finally, news suggests Leicester’s gaffer has a peculiar and fascinating release clause within his LCFC deal. In Express on Thursday was a report claiming Rodgers can leave the King Power side if a club currently in the Champions League bids for him.

In all honesty this was not a shock: if you understand how and why the 48-year-old left Celtic, you’ll know stepping stones are his modus operandi, figuratively speaking. That is not to say he used Leicester: the partnership is mutually beneficial.

With Rodgers technically failing to supply the east Midlands team with UCL football in agonising manner for consecutive campaigns, the stipulation is exemplary irony. Time will tell if this potential switch was conjecture, created rumour – or all I suspect may transpire. See our list of the most realistic three bosses LCFC could move for if necessary.
