Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers gave a rather annoyed response to a question he was asked about the Manchester United manager position.

For a few weeks now the Foxes manager has been linked with the still occupied role at Old Trafford. As Leicester fans we are generally used to seeing our entire set of prominent assets constantly connected with moves to what are perceived as ‘bigger’ clubs.

For the most part the speculation is water off a duck’s back: essentially the Blue Army ignore rumours. That is even if examples such as the Youri Tielemans stories annoy us as a collective, because it is more vital he stays as opposed to players like Harry Maguire exiting the outfit.

With regard to the gaffer, he is also a talented part of the team as an organiser and creator of schemes to defeat higher placed sides. Due to the boss’s success he will effectively be coveted and targeted by leading teams as a potential successor at their helms. Basically Rodgers’ own prosperity leads to speculation, which is believable.

And any footballer or head coach would be delighted by supposed interest from Man United. Which includes their likely strong consideration of leaving any post to join the Red Devils, such is the Northern English side’s status even in evolving times.

When asked by Sky Sports about media talk of his possible switch to United in Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Rodgers replied in an uncharacteristically irritated manner.

Is the Leicester City boss merely deflecting from honestly answering?

So, when asked if the Utd post would be too good to decline, Rodgers seemed to control his anger visibly. Nevertheless he gave the revealing answer that, in his opinion, it was indeed a disrespectful question.

Out of respect to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Northern Irishman seems to have deflected the response. Yet later on, in fairness to the 48-year-old, he confirmed that the gossip is just that – “not real”.
