Leicester City transfer named as best ever in football history
Jamie Vardy has now scored 127 goals for Leicester City in the Premier League and now sits in joint 14th position on the all-time top scorers.
The Premier League is probably the best division in the world when it comes to the player quality. The football played in the league is always an exciting and thrilling experience. Many greats have played there in the past and many are yet to come in the future.
However, a constant question that is usually asked is ‘which transfer has been the greatest in the history of the tournament?’ Various football pundits and experts have commented on numerous names but the latest claim has been made by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

According to the former English defender, the most notable transfer ever made in football is that of the Foxes’ Jamie Vardy. In a column in Telegarph Carragher wrote:
"“There may never be a better transfer than Vardy’s from Fleetwood Town to Leicester – not just in the Premier League era, but in football history. I am always reluctant to definitively declare anyone or anything is ‘the best ever’. It can only be a matter of opinion. But if you were compiling a list of the greatest, most influential signings and judging it on value for money, who eclipses Vardy?”"
Leicester’s star attacker was captured in a mere £1 million deal from Fleetwood Town in 2012 and since then has scored 154 goals in 367 appearances. The ex-England striker, who already holds the record for scoring in consecutive matches in the 2015-16 title winning season and is also the winner of Golden Boot in 2019-20 season making him the oldest player to win it, seems to be getting better every year.
The Sky sport pundit then added:
"“We can talk about many transfers which changed the course of Premier League history, such as Eric Cantona joining Manchester United, Dennis Bergkamp to Arsenal, Yaya Toure or David Silva moving to Manchester City, or Virgil van Dijk joining Liverpool. They were established, international players and household names heading to clubs already building towards titles – the finishing touch to emerging teams.“The Vardy story stands alone in that he joined Leicester for £1 million directly from non-league football and defied expectations. Whenever the story of English football is told to future generations, they will talk about Leicester before and after Vardy’s arrival.”Reported Daily Star."
The 34 year old forward has already scored nine times this season and is only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah who sits at 11. ‘Vards’ is past the bad patch he had at the end of the last campaign and has been in a great touch, scoring twice last weekend at King Power Stadium against Watford.
There have been multiple insights suggesting that Brendan Rodgers had brought out the best of the icon on the pitch by ensuring he is not only a poacher but also a player who creates goals for others to finish.
