Foxes of Leicester attempts to answer the question on all football fans’ minds: does Brazilian legend Ronaldo actually support Leicester City?

‘The First Ronaldo’, ‘old Ronaldo’, ‘original Ronaldo’, ‘Brazilian Ronaldo’, are just a few of the adjectives applied to Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima to differentiate the former Brazil striker from Portugal and Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo. Nevertheless the subject of this piece, let’s refer to him as O.G. Ronnie – only joking – the initial one on the world footballing scene, was a superstar way before his contemporary namesake.

Ronaldo Nazario was quite simply a seminal centre-forward. Possibly one of the last to bear that slightly outdated description; though there was nothing old-fashioned about the attacker who revolutionised direct attacking play with enough skill, speed and strength to be victorious in top tier matches almost alone. Well, maybe he just needed a goalkeeper behind him. And possibly a defender, too.

Anyway, the reason for the piece is the fact that some Foxes fans on Twitter – mistakenly or deliberately jesting frivolously – seemed to be under the assumption that Ronaldo Nazario was in fact a LCFC supporter as well. Unfortunately in spite of the great man, now age-45, using a fox and a blue heart emoji on social media, it turns out that it represents a club in his native country.

Hot. When will Leicester City return to EPL action?. light

O.G. Ronaldo is part of the overtaking of South American team Cruzeiro, who he previously played for. As per Leicester Mercury: “Like City, Cruzeiro play in blue as well as being known as the Foxes, prompting the two emoji tweet from Ronaldo, hinting that the deal has been completed.” Which seems to clear up any confusion. And is a shame because the ex-goalscorer could have perhaps been known as Leicester’s most famous fan, along with Gary Lineker, I would guess.
