Leicester injury updates: Justin, Fofana and Bertrand
Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has provided updates on the side’s current injury situation as the Foxes prepare to begin their FA Cup defence against Watford on Saturday.
With the Foxes assembling makeshift defences on a weekly basis, the returns of James Justin, Wesley Fofana and Ryan Bertrand will be crucial for the east Midlands side. The update comes as Leicester prepare for their upcoming fixtures where they will be without their African stars Wilfred Ndidi, Daniel Amartey, Kelechi Iheanacho and Nampalys Mendy, who are partaking in the African Cup of Nations.
Of the defensive trio that Rodgers has given updates on, Bertrand looks set to recover first. Bertrand, who got injured in the warm-up of the Man City game is expected to return to training next week. Whether he makes it back into the line-up is another question as Luke Thomas has been putting in far more consistent performances than the former England international so far this season.
Justin’s long awaited return from an ACL injury which he picked up in February last year looks set to continue for at least another few weeks:
"“We just need to get some games into him [Justin], he was due to play a game and he was off for 10 days or so, so he’s going to be a few weeks away.”Rodgers to lcfc.com"
The versatile wing-back was in sublime form for Leicester City in the 2020/21 season before picking his injury, regularly operating on the left or right. A quality which could come in very handy in the latter parts of this season as COVID continues to perennially cause issues for Premier League sides.
Leicester City’s star defender
Meanwhile Foxes fans who are eagerly awaiting the return of Fofana from his injury will be forced to wait at least another month. The Northern Irishman indicated that February is when supporters should see their star centre-back back in action.
Fofana’s return to the side will be crucial for LCFC who have been struggling defensively for the majority of this season. While his aerial prowess will also be a handy addition to a side with the worst defensive record from set-pieces this season.
