With the January transfer window wide open, Leicester City are looking to reshape the squad in order to rescue a mixed season. Many are hoping for a few new faces to come into the club, but the Foxes will also be looking at offloading a few players as well.

Whilst many are expecting Nampalys Mendy to be leaving the club, it has emerged that Ricardo Pereira could also be departing. However, it isn’t that simple, and Pereira’s future at the club could well depend on Newcastle United.

No, Newcastle aren’t looking at signing Pereira. Instead, their focus is on England-international Kieran Trippier. The Magpies’ new ownership are looking to make a statement in their first transfer window with the club, with Trippier the big signing.

In the last couple of days, Trippier’s move has gone from a rumour to practically completed, with Sky Sports reporting that a £12m fee had been agreed with Atletico Madrid for the right back. During his time at the Spanish capital, Trippier has played an integral part in winning La Liga, as well as sparking his international career back into life. With Newcastle offering huge wages and a long-term contract, it is a move hard for Trippier to turn down, especially given Atletico’s poor title-defence this season.
