The shock manager Leicester reportedly want to replace Rodgers
If rumours are to be believed, Brendan Rodgers might be on borrowed time as Leicester City boss. The rather surprising manager the Foxes are considering is Gennaro Gattuso.
Defeat to Nottingham Forest in dismal circumstances with a relative whimper is not how Rodgers wants his team to perform. Nor is it the way he would like to be remembered. Not that Foxes of Leicester expect the Northern Irishman to be relieved of duty immediately.
In fact, the former Liverpool boss may be offered more time by the LCFC board than some observers and commentators predict. Obviously if Premier League results decline and the east Midlands outfit descend further down the table, there will be a grave repercussion in regard to Rodgers’ position.
Should the King Power club be eliminated from the Europa Conference League without showing quality, passion or intensity, that outcome may be the gaffer’s downfall. For now, he will continue and won’t be judged too harshly on the result at the impressive Reds on Thursday evening.
Claim made that Leicester City may turn to tempestuous Italian
Those of us old enough to remember Gattuso on the field of play will recall the most pugnacious of athletes. A true force of nature in the centre of midfield, akin to Roy Keane – if the now popular pundit was having a really bad day. See Gattuso versus stunned one-time Tottenham Hotspur assistant and old school football ‘hardman’ Joe Jordan for an explosive example.
Yet the ex-Italy international is, however, revered by his devotees at Rangers and AC Milan due to doggedly committed displays. While Rodgers is a zenic-type of leader, the Italian would be his absolute antipode. Whether or not such a radical contrast in bosses would re-engage the squad is up for debate.
Below is what has been suggested about Gattuso replacing Rodgers; who similarly missed out on Champions League qualification with AC Milan and Napoli in recent years:
