James Maddison

Whilst there was no big departure at LCFC last summer, there was a slight transfer saga between James Maddison and Arsenal. The Gunners were reported to be keen on signing Maddison but weren’t prepared to raise their bids over £60m – far less than what the Foxes would be willing to consider for their playmaker.

Now, going into this summer, Maddison is another year into his deal – his contract expires in 2024 – and may be open for a move away from the King Power in order to progress both his personal, and his international career. This doesn’t mean that £60m would be enough this season though. The No.10 has arguably been Leicester’s player of the season, being directly involved in 16 goals – the highest of anyone at the club.

If they were to lose Tielemans this summer, the Foxes certainly wouldn’t want to lose their other  playmaker in Maddison. Signed from Norwich in 2018 for £22m, rivals would have to nearly quadruple that figure in order to negotiate a transfer. Perhaps, last summer, a few fans may have been happy to see the Englishman depart, but after reaching yet another level in performance,  it is now critical to not only keep Madders, but to also extend his deal.
