Wesley Fofana

The last bit of business that Leicester should focus on is extending Wesley Fofana’s contract. The Frenchman has missed every professional game for the Foxes so far this campaign after suffering a horrific pre-season ankle dislocation, however his return to first-team training on Friday suggests that a return is imminent. His absence has been a major factor in Leicester’s troubled defence this season, and his return will be widely welcomed.

Still only 21, the Frenchman was signed from Saint-Etienne for over £30m in 2020, and has gone on to become a key figure in LCFC’s backline. Pacey, determined, and a man who truly loves tackling, Fofana brings with him an energy that makes him one of the most exciting young defenders in the world.

Signing a 5-year deal with the club when he first joined, his current deal is set to expire in 2025, but renewing that deal will soon become, if not already, a key part in both his and Leicester’s future. The youngster clearly loves life in the East Midlands and is someone who truly plays for the badge, but he will undoubtedly have admirers from all over Europe.

Last summer, Real Madrid were monitoring him, but no offer was put forward. Due to his injury this season, possible suitors may be deterred from spending big figures on the defender, instead letting him have another year of running down his contract and building up his form. If Harry Maguire was worth £80m, then Fofana will be worth over £100m, but this is a fee that will be harder to demand as his contract continues to run down.
