Randers vs Leicester: Foxes fans vote for starting XI
Leicester City travel to face Randers in the second leg of their tie in the UEFA Conference League. Here is the starting XI the fans voted to face the Danes.
After a confidence boosting 4-1 crushing of Randers at the King Power, the Foxes must not let anything slip in their bid to progress in a cup competition this season. This tie should already be buried though.
Nevertheless, a strong XI is expected as Leicester look to maintain form in the Conference League. That being said, instead of doing a predicted starting XI, I thought we should look at what you wanted.
So, I put out a tweet polling what side you want to see in the fixture, and I think Brendan Rodgers would be silly not to play this team. The poll is linked below if you wish to change the results.
Leicester City fan’s XI
King Power supporters overwhelmingly selected Welsh goalkeeper Danny Ward over his colleagues. With 49 per cent of the vote against Kasper Schmeichel’s 35.9%. This is a fair choice.
The ‘keeper deserves a chance to perform and in a tie with a comfortable three goal margin, there is every opportunity to give the Welsh international a run out for LCFC.
Next, we asked what centre-back pairing we should see versus Randers. The results were much closer: 30.8% voted for a partnership of Caglar Soyuncu and Jannik Vestergaard. Once more, the Danish defender is given the nod by supporters as he performed well in the reverse fixture.
Supporters also liked the idea of Hamza Choudhury partnering with either Vestergaard or Benjamin Nelson of the U23 squad. This academy product certainly entertains the fans.
In terms of fullbacks, there was a clear winner. With 57.7% of the vote, Luke Thomas and Ricardo Pereira were favoured over other possible options, including one which would give Shane Flynn his Leicester debut.
In midfield, supporters opted closely for a trio of Boubakary Soumare, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Ayoze Perez as an attacking midfielder. This was closely followed by an all-English outlet of Choudhury, KDH, and James Maddison.
Up front, two wingers were selected by fans. Rodgers will likely follow this regardless of supporter sentiments. The vote was narrowly in-favour of Harvey Barnes and Ademola Lookman playing together, with a Marc Albrighton plus Lookman pairing also liked.
Finally, we asked what striker the supporters would like. With over 70% of the vote, Kelechi Iheanacho dominated polling. Clearly the Nigerian international is the fan-favourite option.
In a 4-2-3-1 formation, this progressive, dominating, but also defensively sound line-up is likely to be selected, as key players are rested, and others given the opportunity to shine with a comfortable 4-1 lead heading into the match.
