Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been compared to fictional The Office boss David Brent by a former player of his.

Oh dear. Does Rodgers remind you of anyone? Specifically Ricky Gervais’ monstrously-awful-yet-begrudgingly-likeable Brent? Now they come to mention it – a bit, yeah.

This sort of thing has been said before about the former Liverpool gaffer. And there are parody accounts on social media implying general ‘Brentishness’ and direct ‘Brentisms’. However, they aren’t that funny, to be honest.

But, in all fairness to the 49-year-old, even though he shares some managerial inspiration with the ‘Brentmeister general’ – as Chris Finchy ‘Finch’ would say – Rodgers’ feet do seem firmly on the ground. Even if he can be slightly lighthearted and whimsical at times. Monologue quotes of celebrities such as Des’ree, I assume, are a little far-fetched for the LCFC dressing room.

Although, according to retired footballer Matt Mills – who actually featured on 25 occasions for LCFC, though not when ‘BR’ was there – Rodgers is a  “gobs****”! Yeah, I was startled when I read that too.

Furthermore, Mills suggests that when the pair were at Reading together, Rodgers had similarities to Brent. In contrast, the ex-defender claims the Foxes chief is a ‘great coach’:

"“As it turns out, I don’t really like the guy at all… I was just like ‘this guy’s unreal’.“…He’s just a gobs**** mate. He talks the best game ever. [He’s a] great coach to be fair to him.“One time, we had a team meeting, he started speaking Spanish – not one Spanish player in the room. And we were like ‘what is f****** going on here?’“He’s like David Brent out of The Office; he’s a strange guy.”– Matt Mills"

Rennes in the UEFA Europa Conference League for Leicester City

The King Power Stadium plays host to French outfit Rennes Thursday evening for a Last 16 UECL contest. Leicester and les Rennais should be relatively well-matched sides in this one. At present, the latter are the fourth-placed Ligue 1 team, as well as being praised and admired by many.

Meanwhile, the East Midlands club are beginning to resemble the force they once were under Rodgers’ guidance. While Leicester’s injury list remains an issue, especially in defence with regard to fullbacks.

Initially, with the matches being played over two legs, the fixture will be rather tentative. Though Foxes of Leicester feel the Foxes can gain a marginal lead to take to France on March 17. In addition, FoL view LCFC as the slightly stronger outfit that should progress to the quarter-finals.
