It has been an eventful few weeks for Leicester City to say the least. Having secured back-to-back wins and clean sheets in the Premier League, the Foxes also tied Wesley Fofana to a new contract until 2027.

The latest news for Leicester City is that head of recruitment Lee Congerton has finally left to go to Atalanta after three years at the club. Congerton was a figure that divided opinion, having moved to Leicester with Brendan Rodgers. Although the club have made some very good signings under his tenure such as Wesley Fofana and James Justin, there have also been some costly errors.

Players such as Ryan Bertrand, Ryan Bennett and Jannik Vestergaard tarnish the 48-year-old’s legacy. It seems telling that few Foxes fans on social media were upset at his departure due to the issues with recent signings. Now FoL highlight three potential candidates to replace Congerton.

A fairytale return to Leicester City for Steve Walsh?

For Leicester City, Steve Walsh was an integral part of the fairytale title success having been credited with unearthing talents such as N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez. It was undoubted that interest would come in for his abilities, and he moved to Everton shortly after the end of the 2015-16 season.

Unfortunately, his reputation suffered during his time at the Toffees, having spent over £150m on players including Morgan Schneiderlin and Cenk Tosun. With Everton fighting relegation and most of these signings failing to impress, Steve Walsh was sacked. Despite his shortcomings at Everton, Walsh still had an eye for talent and in another universe Everton may have signed Andy Robertson, Harry Maguire and Erling Haaland.

Unfortunately for Everton fans, the board rejected his recommendations, showing that hindsight is truly a wonderful thing. Now at Charlotte FC in the MLS, would Leicester City be a potential way back to England for the famed scout?

Rob Mackenzie

Another name familiar to LCFC, Rob Mackenzie also worked for the Foxes between 2011-2015 as Leicester’s head of technical scouting. Having left mid-way through the title-winning season, he has had spells at Tottenham, OH Leuven, Derby County before his current role at Aston Villa.

As part of the team that helped Leicester identify cut-price talents, Mackenzie may be willing to make a switch across the Midlands back to where he made a name for himself. With Aston Villa making shrewd signings, the East Midlanders may be wise to take note.

Andy Scott

Apart from returning to the tried-and-tested options, the King Power side could look to a more left-field option in Andy Scott. Scott formerly worked at Swansea City and identified talents such as Joel Piroe who has been linked with a move to the Foxes. One potential issue with Scott is his current employment with Leicester’s rivals Nottingham Forest which could potentially hold up potential efforts to sign him, and LCFC may want a more proven option for what is a very important position.
