Vardy might return from injury for this huge Leicester match
Following updates from Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, Foxes of Leicester detail when an injured Jamie Vardy is set to return to action for the Foxes. While Kelechi Iheanacho and Patson Daka hold down the team, Vardy is a unique and generational talent who is indispensable.
Everyone involved in football is aware of the everlasting impact that the then non-league, £1million signing had for Leicester following his arrival from Fleetwood Town in May 2012. At that time, a record fee.
The reason why I briefly refreshed your memory about the illustrious striker is as simple as it is daunting for LCFC, as well as the Blue Army: Vardy is now a veteran who will be unavailable more often and play less. Unfortunately, he will ultimately retire at some point.
This year, the 35-year-old has only played in two of 15 Foxes outings; a fact which does not bode well for the Leicester icon. However, when his presence is felt, it is normally impactful: the return against Burnley witnessed a goal, an assist, along with three points.
Thankfully, following a current knee issue, Leicester boss Rodgers confirmed that his No.9’s fate for the term is not as disappointing as teammate Wilfred Ndidi’s diagnosis. The Nigerian will not feature for the East Midlands side again in 2021/22. Yet Vardy will be available once again this term.
In March, soon after Vardy made his fan-craved comeback from a hamstring issue, the other previously mentioned problem occurred. Rodgers recently explained when King Power supporters can expect their hero to be in action:
"“He’s certainly not ready for the weekend. We’ll assess it over the next week to two weeks.”Leicester Mercury"
This feels as though the PSV Eindhoven first leg UEFA Europa Conference League contest on April 7 will be too soon for Vardy to be ready. But he could target the second leg on the 14th.
Can Leicester City understudies Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho fill the Jamie Vardy gap?
As much as I am optimistic about the rapid and fairly clinical Daka’s future, the Zambian is not quite at the stature to inherited Vardy’s kingdom yet. In years to come, who knows?
Meanwhile, the talented Iheanacho must seemingly make do with a substitute role out of the limelight under the Northern Irishman. I cannot see that status changing. Nevertheless, the Nigeria international is of the calibre to start for a decent Premier League team, as I see it.
