Things to know about Leicester transfer target Houssem Aouar
According to Ekrem Konur, Leicester City is interested in signing Houssem Aouar this summer. The 23-year-old is a central midfielder currently playing at Olympique Lyon; in 44 games across Ligue 1 and the Europa League, he has seven goals and four assists.
Aouar has been on the radar of several Premier League teams this past year. Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur made attempts to sign him in last year’s summer transfer window. However, they both failed to bring him in. Leicester sees him as the perfect replacement for Youri Tielemans as his departure from the club seems inevitable. If signed by the Foxes, Aouar would greatly boost a midfield that already includes James Maddison, Wilfred Ndidi, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Aouar first signed for Lyon’s youth academy at age-11; In year 18 he would make his first couple of appearances within their senior team. Then at just 19 years old, he started getting consistent playing time with the side, featuring in 45 matches. In his 214 appearances with les Gones, the Frenchman scored 39 goals and assisted on 33 assists.
Invariably, Aouar would reinforce the centre of the park for multiple reasons: ability to score and facilitate helps provide the East Midlands outfit with more goal opportunities; being quite young also adds youthful vibrancy into the lineup, similarly to Dewsbury-Hall. But despite the youth, the former has already played two seasons in the Champions League and three in the Europa League. If signed, Aouar would give us the additional European experience needed in the squad.
Technically gifted, Aouar has a current market value of around €31 million; this is a move Leicester can pull off if they want to. If Youri Tielemans is sold this summer, LCFC shall lose a talented and creative athlete. Aouar could, idealistically, come in and fill that role for Leicester instantly. Foxes of Leicester give their blessing to attempt a move.
