Three replacements for Kasper Schmeichel if he leaves Leicester

Since the news of Leicester City enquiring about Brighton & Hove Albion’s goalkeeper Robert Sánchez broke out, we have been perplexed. The alleged inflated price tag of £50 million makes no sense taking the current market into account, as it is abundant with unhappy goalkeepers.

I have been critical of Kasper Schmeichel because his performance isn’t at the level of a good Premier League goalkeeper anymore, I am sorry to say. The numbers don’t lie, and we have shown that his projections only compare with some of the unwanted goalkeepers who are having an error-prone or underwhelming season.

The call on making Danny Ward our number one choice has long passed us by. Towards the end of UEFA Euro 2020, Ward had lauded praise from the spectators on a global stage. It was the perfect opportunity for the Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, to capitalize on this momentum. He should have either sold him or given him some opportunities when Kasper was misfiring.

Doing none of those has made the Welshman a forgettable asset. Shelving him for four years with his Premier League debut coming just a few days ahead doesn’t make one confident of him stepping up as our number one.
