Leicester City have apparently contacted Maxwel Cornet’s representatives about a transfer, following Burnley’s relegation activating a release clause. Foxes of Leicester offer a view on the versatile left-sided player, as well as a verdict on the feasibility of a deal.

Before we get too involved into this latest and most interesting LCFC transfer link of the year, I must admit that I am a fan of the player’s work. Additionally, I was hoping that the Foxes would make a bid, or be at least interested in signing the Ivorian. That being said, let’s dive into this one with as much impartiality as possible.

What will have attracted the East Midlands team to Cornet is his very noticeable impact in the Premier League in a generally losing side: 10 goal involvements in 24 outings. His scoring record in that time is around 30 percent, which is stunning for a defender/attacker with the relegated Clarets.

Furthermore, there is still this ‘let’s finally secure a successor to Riyad Mahrez’ issue on Filbert Way. While the ex-Olympique Lyon wideman typically plays in the opposite area to Manchester City’s man – Cornet is left-footed. Not to mention being an Ivory Coast international.

Meanwhile there is also a bonus in signing the 25-year-old as he can play in a number of roles, including as an attacker, a leftback or as a wingback. Potentially Brendan Rodgers could incorporate the rightwing to that repertoire. Many supporters will remember the ‘worldie’ the former scored at King Power Stadium.

FoL affiliate 90min suggest the drop to the Championship triggered a £17.5million release clause in the Bregbo-born wingman. This amount should be well within LCFC’s apparently minimal budget this summer. And the ‘squad refresh’ would have a great foundation if Cornet was acquired when the transfer window opens.
