Leicester City, alongside Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, is interested in Matthew Garbett. He played 30 games for Torino’s U-19 team where he would go on to score three times and assist two more. The rising New Zealand star is looking to jump to a bigger European team; Sevilla is also said to have been interested in the player.

The man in question is a central midfielder; with Youri Tielemans likely leaving this summer, there will be a significant need for that position. The youngster could come in and potentially contend for a starting XI spot. However, Garbett is not the direction the foxes should be heading into this summer.

Garbett is young and has shown signs of being a promising player. However, here’s where the issues start to form. LCFC finished one spot and four points away from securing European football via last season’s premier league. The campaign before, we were a top four team until the final game of the 2020/21. This is a side that has high expectations and, unfortunately, Garbett isn’t that type of quality – yet.

Even if Garbett wasn’t a first choice right away, it is still questionable wether or not he would even be a substitute option. This would be a signing that does not serve any major significance to the contemporary team. There are plenty of central midfielders, young as well, who could come in and help Leicester contend for European glory again; look at Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, fro example. The 20-year-old is not going to come in and make a crucial change for the Foxes.

It is currently unknown what transfer fee the New Zealander would command; though he is connected to the East Midlanders by media. It likely won’t be more than a couple million pounds, so it will be a move the Foxes can afford. It may be affordable, but Brendan Rodgers and his staff need to really think about if this is a move that would help out the team. Apparently the LCFC budget is minimal, ultimately. However, Dennis Praet could have been used for leverage.
