Leicester interest confirmed in rated defender who wants new challenge
Reports have come out that Leicester City is interested in defender Levi Colwill. Colwill, just 19 years old, spent a successful season out on loan at Huddersfield Town.
Now returning to Chelsea, it is unlikely that Colwill will be seeing much playtime as Chelsea is rumored to be looking to sign two defenders. With Southampton and other Premier League teams being interested, it is important for LCFC to act quick for the player they’ve been interested in since January.
The Foxes inquired on taking Colwill on loan in January. However, Chelsea were not interested in breaking their agreement with Huddersfield. Brendan Rodgers had every right to be interested in breaking that loan as Colwill was fantastic for Huddersfield on loan. Colwill played so well, he’s gotten called the next John Terry. He’s earned the comparisons with his tackling/marking, being able to pass and contribute on offense, and his composure on the pitch.
For being so young, Colwill already has such an all around, complete game. In his 30 appearances last season, Colwill helped Huddersfield get 11 clean sheets. Being their main guy, he was able to be their leader at just 19 years old. He commanded the backline, was always in the right position, and made the clutch tackle when needed.
If you thought these instances couldn’t get more impressive – he contributes on the offensive end as well. This last season he had two goals and an assist. But not only that, he created 13 chances and provided counterattack opportunities with his line-breaking passes.
Colwill made some appearances for England’s U19 team this season before making his U21 team debut in March. A lot of eyes are starting to turn towards Colwill for his class and form. This is a signing and opportunity Leicester can’t afford to miss out on – especially judging by how inconsistent our defense was last season. When Wesley Fofana wasn’t on the pitch, it almost seemed like our defensive line was non-existent. Bringing in a youngster like Colwill helps out Leicester for next season and the next five seasons.
Colwill is quite young, so rushing him to play every game the first season would be asking a lot. With defenders like Caglar Soyuncu on the team, the Blues man can split some starting time and get some real experience with the team while not over doing it. Colwill has potential and skill and would be a class signing by leicester City.
