Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare has endured a difficult first season in the Premier League. Despite arriving with comparisons to players such as Yaya Toure, the Frenchman only made 19 appearances in all competitions and failed to shine at all.

Soumare not only has struggled to adapt to the pace of the English game, but also has had other personal issues which have affected his integration, leading to inconsistency. One performance that sums this up is Leicester’s 3-1 away defeat against Tottenham. Soumare started brightly, carrying out some powerful driving runs to help create chances.

Nevertheless, he was often guilty of taking too long on the ball and failing to track his runners defensively.  Clearly, Leicester City’s recruitment team saw a talented player, but it does remain to be seen whether LCFC is a place where he can fully showcase his talents. Perhaps if the right offer were to come in, given Leicester’s shortage of funds, Soumare could be let go. Even so, it would be a great shame for the talented midfielder to leave without ever fulfilling his promise.

Who is interested in Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumare?

According to Foot Mercato, AS Monaco are interested in ending Soumare’s difficult experience across the Channel. After the departure of Monaco’s star midfielder Aurelian Tchouameni, Monaco reportedly see Soumare as a ‘priority signing’ to replace their outgoing. The report did not specify a fee, but would likely be around the cost Leicester paid for the player or maybe more given the known fact Monaco have nearly £100m burning a hole in their pockets.

At present, this rumour must be taken with a pinch of salt, with more reliable sources required to corroborate such reports before any conclusions can be made. Whilst in theory, this would be a reasonable move, it is probably unlikely that Brendan Rodgers will want to cut his losses so quickly.

If Soumare were to leave, this would create another void in the squad needing to be filled, with the central midfield ranks being further decimated by the probable departures of Dennis Praet and Hamza Choudhury. Ultimately, it would be worth giving the Frenchman more time if possible. After all, players such as Jamie Vardy struggled in their first season at Leicester City, albeit in very different circumstances. Even so, this may be one area that the Foxes need to stick with, rather than twist.
