If reports are to be believed, Leicester City’s interest in Chelsea’s Levi Colwill is now at the next level as they plan a move of their own to help secure a transfer for the Blues up-and-comer.

According to Jordan Blackwell, rising stars of elite clubs are precisely the players the Foxes are looking for with regard to incoming transfers. If these prospects want Premier League game time – maybe Leicester can provide it! Moreover, chairman Top Srivaddhanaprabha wrote recently that City might be able to ‘profit from a domino effect’ during the summer transfer market.

A further encouraging update is the assertion that Colwill is ‘exactly’ the type of recruit the King Power club desire for their central defence region. The majority of LCFC fans are very keen on the side acquiring a player like the 19-year-old. I have seen tweets and heard from supporters saying just that.

You may have also read this week that Leicester are after another Southampton centreback. And yes, Jan Bednarek played in the 9-0 drubbing a few years back. Although more talented than Foxes flop Jannik Vestergaard, the profile of Colwill and his skill set feels more suited to Filbert Way. Let’s just say that the Pole could have been a good addition, but the Blue Army are nervous following Vestergaard and Ryan Bertrand’s fateful switches.

Blackwell says a move for the Saint would a U-turn away from what City claim to wish for. Again, much-scrutinised now inaccurate-seeming quotes from Brendan Rodgers are used to emphasise that point.

Why Levi Colwill would be a great addition for Leicester City

Colwill fits the bill at Leicester for several reasons. Firstly the East Midlands team require a left-footed or specialist left-sided centreback. In addition, the age of the Blues starlet means he could have a similarly prolonged and positive impact on the developing first XI to Wesley Fofana.

As previously mentioned, the Foxes reportedly wanted to secure some athletes on the rise from big six clubs or abroad. Colwill appears to be the ideal candidate. On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the defender shall probably depart Stamford Bridge. Apparently Crystal Palace and LCFC will battle it out for him – but only if Vestergaard can be offloaded first of all.
